You’ve Heard Xerox’s Green Messaging – But Did You Know We Also Go Blue?

Jim Rise, vice president, operational excellence and strategy, Xerox North American Reseller Sales

I recently had the pleasure of welcoming to Xerox’s Wilsonville, Ore. campus the founder of Blue Legacy – Alexandra Cousteau, granddaughter of French explorer and filmmaker Jacques Cousteau. Alexandra was joined by Jonathan Smith, CEO and co-founder of Blue Legacy, her mother Jan, and a great support crew. Alexandra and her team are in the midst of a 138-day, 14,500 mile expedition road tour called Expedition Blue Planet: North America, a partnership with the National Geographic Society that promotes awareness of water issues across the U.S. and Canada.

DSC_0378We had the Expedition Blue Planet bio-diesel bus parked in the big field between our buildings on campus.  Hundreds of employees came out to hear Alexandra and Jonathan speak about their mission and Blue Legacy’s partnership with Xerox. If you don’t know, Xerox is the official document technology partner for Blue Legacy. They chose us because of our solid ink technology and for our long-standing commitment to sustainability. Blue Legacy is using a Phaser 8860 solid ink multifunction printer on the tour bus and a ColorQube 9203 MFP at their headquarters in Washington D.C. They are into technology, innovation and love solid ink.

We gave the Expedition Blue Planet team a tour of solid ink manufacturing and got the chance to highlight our commitment to sustainability on the Wilsonville campus. They were especially impressed with the waste piles comparing the ColorQube 9203’s lifetime waste to that of a 50 ppm Canon MFP.

During the Expedition’s visit, local water groups, including Environment Oregon, Tualatin Riverkeepers and the Surfrider Organization, were also onsite to share information on the local watershed. Hundreds of employees were able to learn about local water issues and how they can make a difference. Overall, it was a great visit and a very positive experience for all.

A big thank you to Alexandra and the entire Expedition Blue Plant team for joining us not just in Wilsonville, but as a Xerox partner!

It’s a great reflection on the U.S. Tech and Manufacturing industries that a company like Xerox invest its time and resources in supporting sustainability efforts. As a fairly new employee, I would never have known that Xerox played – and continues to play – such a significant role in creating, supporting, and administering sustainability standards and research for over 40 years… amazing!
