Ursula Burns: Believing in our Youth

Today, Working Mother Magazine named Ursula Burns one of the Most Powerful Moms in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

As a mechanical engineer, Ursula rose through the ranks at Xerox to become the company’s CEO.    Over the years, she has worked tirelessly to advance science among young people.   She served as a mentor and later on the Board of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) which inspires young people to be science and technology leaders through mentoring and competitive events like its highly popular Robotics competition.  Ursula now serves on the Board of Change the Equation, an organization that aligns corporate efforts in STEM education to ensure that they add up to real, measurable growth in the achievement and STEM fluency of our nation’s young people.

Congratulations Ursula for believing in our youth.

Congrats Ursula on the recognition from Working Mother Magazine. I am very excited to share that I am an official Judge in the FIRST Competition here in Connecticut! I personally look forward to being inspired by the youth in our headquarters’ state.

Whilst I was at Xerox there were few women, and those who expressed opinions were not appreciated. It is therefore, really great to see a woman at the top now, and a woman who is a real leader and inspiration not just in Xerox but to the whole of the outside world. Congratulations on your continued success.
