Uncover the Business of Your Brain with Xerox’s Desktop App

What’s one of the first things you do when logging in each morning? I suspect many office workers are the same…clicking on the letter icon to open Microsoft Outlook…watching the emails and meeting notices stack up. Sigh. Sip of coffee. Let the day begin.

At Xerox, we’re adding a wink and a smile to the realities of the workday, as lived through Outlook. Introducing Business of Your Brain™. It’s a free desktop application from Xerox that analyzes your emails and calendar notices to help identify what’s taking you away from doing – you guessed it – your real business.

*The app took a lighthearted approach to revealing insights about how we spend our workday by pointing out an alarming number of distractions. After using it, you might think twice before setting up yet another meeting or emailing your colleague one more time just to say thanks.

The app is completely secure – no one has access to the analysis of your brain – I mean your inbox – except for you. You have the ability to share some of the data via your social channels…but, that’s entirely up to you. It’s really none of our business if 65 percent of your incoming email contains trash talking about how the Mets will beat the Phillies this weekend.

At Xerox, our value proposition is clear: we provide the technology and services that help our clients run their businesses better. Because when these basic processes operate more effectively, business is liberated and you can focus on what you do best, your core business – your real business.

Take a moment to download it today.   Feel free to share it with your friends and colleagues.   Post a comment here or on the Xerox Facebook page to let us know what you think.

    crashes while scanning. usually around day 216. No error for trouble shooting. Sends info to Xerox.Any chance they will be any updates to current version?

      Hi Don:
      A few users have also had the same issue, so we’re doing a bit of “brain surgery.” The updated app will be posted on 5/20 at http://www.businessofyourbrain.com

    App will not scan/analyze my sent mail properly.

    After the app has finished scanning it basically says I have never sent any e-mail. I do not archive my sent mail. I can find no configuration settings

      Hi Joe;
      You’re right that Business of Your Brain only finds sent mail that exists in the sent outlook folder, so if there’s nothing to scan, it will not deliver results. You may also want to note that once the application is open, the bottom left will indicate how many days are left to be scanned. So check to validate that the scan is actually completed. That may also be the reason why it’s not showing.

    This is really cool. Is there any way to configure it to ignore certain email? I get a lot of system messages that are routed to folders. They arent really contacts per se. Maybe you could add this in a future release?

      Hi Jody: The version of Business of Your Brain that you downloaded was our first and only. It was intended to provide a way to help you see how much of your day is spent with email, meetings, and various forms of time wasters. Armed with this information — minus the system messages — I hope you are able to get a better idea of how you actually spend your time at work.

    The website seemed to get hacked. Cannot get to the site anymore to download the app.

      Kyle: The Business of Your Brain app, and the accompanying website, were discontinued a few years ago. It was a fun little app, but it was time to move on. Thank you for your interest.

      Cheers,
