Having a Warm Heart

by, Guest Blogger, LeAngela Colbert, Xerox Social Service Leave recipient

What’s it feel like to spend each day helping make your community a better place?  You go home every night with a warm heart.

As part of Xerox Social Service Leave Program, I’m one of 11 employees who are fortunate to receive fully-paid leaves of absences to volunteer for local non-profit organizations.  I began my leave in early January, and it’s been amazing.

Through September, I am devoting my time to the Center for Leadership Development (CLD), an organization in my hometown of Indianapolis that helps to foster the advancement of minority youth in central Indiana as future professional business and community leaders.

I’m supporting two projects at CLD, the 32nd Annual Minority Achiever and Scholars Gala which will be held on March 21st at the Indiana Convention Center, and helping program staff spread the word about the organization.  To learn more please take a look at http://youtu.be/ifjwqc_nLDI

It is a rewarding feeling to know that I’m not only impacting the lives of the minority youth of Central Indiana and working to increase the pipeline of qualified professionals and quality citizens for the state.

I appreciate the opportunity to learn as well as to share my skill set, knowledge and passion with such a great organization.  So as I continue on this great adventure as an ambassador of Xerox I reflect on a quote by Kanye West, “I’m on a pursuit of awesomeness.  Excellence is the bare minimum.”

I’ve worked with LeAngela and one thing I discovered about her is that if she supports something it’s with her mind, body and soul. I’ve no doubt her contributions will be a success!

Keep up the good work LeAngela!
    Sincerely
    Sandi

What a blessing opportunity for you, but it is even more blessing for the young lives who going to come in contact with you. I know your passion had been to help young minority, and truly, the Center for Leadership Development is going to be blessed with your presence and the knowledge that you are going to bring. Whenever I get stuck, as one of the employee who used to work for you, I always think back to when you used to tell me that I can do it! I carry those words with me every where and every task that seem impossible at first, it become easy because you made me believe in myself. What a blessing have you been to me, and what a blessing you are going to be to the community. We need more volunteers like you!
