Music is often described as the universal language. In the month of June, that musical language turns to jazz. 2018 marks the tenth year Xerox will sponsor the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival.
The nine-day festival brings a fun and very active atmosphere to Rochester, New York. In addition to hundreds of musicians, we host hundreds of customers and partners for thought leadership conferences, customer councils, and business meetings.
What is also exciting is the way we use innovation to bring vibrant colors to the interactive musical posters.
Technology that makes the passes pop
Club passes are printed with vibrant colors on the recently launched Xerox Iridesse™ Production Press. It’s the only digital press that can print metallic gold or silver dry ink, color ink and clear dry ink in a single pass. New this year, the club passes are personalized with a patron’s name and photograph. The personalization is made possible with software from XMPie,® A Xerox Company. The club passes will also have special security features that incorporate infrared and microtext specialty printing. They ensure that only those who have paid for tickets get in, and counterfeiters stay out.
This year’s festival will feature interactive musical posters displayed on buildings, alongside stages, and in the merchandise tent. The posters are printed on Xerox’s iGen5 presses; they highlight the different genres of music at the festival — cool, funk, groovy, jive and soul. The prints are combined with electronic elements. Patrons will be able to create music by touching the guitars, keyboards or drums on each poster.

The “funk” poster has an extra treat. If offers an augmented reality viewing of the musical instruments. Patrons can see the guitar strings move, or the keys on the keyboard depress. The Blippar app allows patrons to interact with the posters. The app is available for download for Apple and Android.
Jazz swag
Xerox is also bringing back a fun, personalized photo opportunity. Festival attendees may take their picture at the “selfie-stage” on Jazz Street, next to the merchandise tent. After the photo is taken, attendees will automatically receive an email prompt to print their photo on a Xerox ConnectKey® device with our Mobile Print App.
